Blending Wonder with Imagination

“I sometimes wait and often search for meaning and understanding as I continue my journey with porcelain.” Katie Swenson

When creating pieces, I choose a combination of clays which have added color. From objects found in nature, details are brought into the story and texture is added. Often glazes will enhance a particular area and many types of Stoneware might be chosen to contribute to the diversity of form. Each creation is crafted in a space of careful study to use experience and curiosity.

When finding another path of exploration, I join the mind and spirit with great joy and solace to reach the final destination of a completed piece.

From my own garden and beautiful Oregon landscapes, rivers and coastal environments - all within a days journey from my studio, I incorporate the essence of nature’s treasures in my art.

In the piece shown here, I mirror nature’s forms and elements to create an old apple tree stump. Working through the creative process, as each piece reveals its character and shape, I often place branches, flowers, bark and other components around my workspace as inspiration to form the piece.
